Russ Rayfield made his professional debut in
the mid-fifties at the tender age of 7, and has been in and out of the
music business ever since.
Locally, he played seven years with the
Monday Night Squaredance, and was a founding member of the Jugsluggers,
and Studebaker Hawk, two avant-garde string bands in the 70's and 80's.
He also played in the rock band Looking For Mom, and was a driving force
in the jazz band Bricktop.
Currently, he is performing with the
bluegrass band Prairie Wheels. He has two CD's with his modern jazz
combo Half Nelson, and is working on another recording with his long-time
friend Mark Briere, with whom he performs occasionally.
He teaches 5-string banjo, jazz, and music
theory at the Homestead two days a week, and can be reached anytime at his
email address.
