Kevin
Barnes has been a mainstay in the Twin Cities Bluegrass, Acoustic Music
and Jazz community since 1977. Since
1980, Kevin has been a fixture at the Homestead Pickin' Parlor, teaching
beginning to advanced banjo,
guitar and dobro (resophonic guitar). Over the last 25 years, Kevin has
worked with over 1500 students of Bluegrass and Folk music in both
individual and group instructional settings.

Philosophy -- to enable my students to quickly surpass their own expectations and to
develop a deep appreciation and passion for playing music.
Kevin's professional music and teaching career includes:

years(1980-99) as the founder, leader and banjoist for Stoney Lonesome, one of
the Midwest's premier Bluegrass ensembles. Stoney
Lonesome was featured as the house bluegrass band on Garrison
Keillor's A
Prairie Home Companion (heard on over 200 National Public
Radio stations) from 1980 to 1987. Stoney
Lonesome toured extensively in the United States, Canada,
Europe and Japan.

Extensive
production, instrumental and voice-over studio work for a variety of
clients including Northwest Airlines, The Medora Musical, Minnesota Twins, Wells Fargo, WCCO 4, Minnesota Public Radio,
St. Paul Bank, Guthrie Theatre, Marshall Fields, Great American
History Theatre, Illusion Theatre, General Mills, Target and many others.

The
last 4 years as community partnership, marketing and sales director at
radio station KBEM-88.5 FM (Jazz88) in the Twin Cities. Kevin's work
at KBEM includes hosting String Theory, an eclectic acoustic music focused show featured
on KBEM Sunday evenings from 9 to 11 p.m..
