Mary DuShane was
the fiddler for three years in the original Powdermilk Biscuit Band, house
band for A Prairie Home Companion. She has awards from the Minnesota
Music Academy and MBOTMA in blues, country and old time fiddle, and has
played in or judged many fiddle contests. Mary learned old time fiddling
by following her favorite fiddlers around Ohio, West Virginia and North
Carolina – before digital technology made access a bit easier. Her
performance career has included string band music, jug band music, Dead-oid
jam music, country rock, country swing, Cajun, original folk, and fiddle
tunes in southern and northern styles. Her fiddling and arranging can be
heard on the Buffalo Gals CD’s.
She currently
plays in the Cajun Hot Soles band, in a contra dance
band with Bob Walser and Pete Mathison; in the “Geezers” jug band; and in
duos with favorite guitarists, including Adam Granger (also Homestead
faculty). Mary wants to help people have fun with the fiddle – and listen
well and play well too!
